My Wife’s Final Request Revealed the Hidden History of Our Daughter’s Adoption

Posted on October 15, 2026 By admin

The hospital room carried the familiar scent of Carol’s lavender hand lotion when she tightened her fingers around mine. After thirty-six years of marriage, my wife had only days remaining. We spoke about our daughter, Rebecca, our Sunday pancakes, and the green porch swing Carol had never liked. Then her expression became serious. “Find Anna,” she whispered. She also told me that Carol had overheard Ruth’s earlier threats but had not spoken up. I returned home and searched my mother’s attic, where I found correspondence and adoption records. Among them was a letter in Carol’s handwriting revealing that the baby Anna had placed for adoption was Rebecca—the daughter Carol and I had subsequently adopted.
