Veteran British actor Michael Byrne, whose memorable performances in *Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade* and *Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1* introduced him to generations of film fans, has died at the age of 82. His passing was confirmed through an obituary published by *The Guardian*. According to the announcement, Byrne died on June 20, although no cause of death has been publicly disclosed. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he became one of Britain’s most respected character actors, earning recognition for his versatility and ability to bring memorable supporting roles to life across film, television, and theater.

Born on November 7, 1943, in Hampstead, North London, Byrne was raised by his mother, Helen Byrne, who worked as a cook after moving from Kilkenny, Ireland. Throughout his career, Byrne appeared in more than 150 film and television productions. He became especially well known for portraying Colonel Ernst Vogel in *Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade*, while later introducing himself to a younger audience as the elderly Gellert Grindelwald in *Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1*.
