While many families arrived dressed formally, I came just as I was—a truck driver who had spent most of his life on the road. None of that mattered once Emma spotted me in the crowd. As the ceremony began, hundreds of newly commissioned officers stood proudly on the field while family members watched from the stands. The keynote speaker, Lieutenant General Daniel Mercer, delivered remarks about leadership, service, and the importance of supporting those who choose a life of commitment and responsibility. I listened quietly, focused on Emma and the bright future ahead of her. Like many parents in attendance, I was simply grateful to witness such a meaningful moment. While greeting families after the ceremony, General Mercer noticed a worn leather bracelet I had carried for many years. It sparked a conversation about military service, personal sacrifice, and the people who leave lasting impressions on our lives.
