Veteran ‘Star Wars’ Voice Actor Richard Donat Passes Away at 84 After Long Illness

Richard Donat, a respected Canadian actor known for his work across theatre, television, film, and voice acting, has passed away at the age of 84 following a prolonged illness. He died on March 28 at South Shore Regional Hospital. Born on June 1, 1941, in Kentville, Nova Scotia, Donat developed a passion for storytelling early in life, which grew into a decades-long career defined by versatility, dedication, and respect for the craft of acting.

Donat earned significant recognition in Canadian theatre, where he became known for his thoughtful performances and strong command of character. His work on stage demonstrated emotional depth and consistency, eventually leading him to take on directing roles as well. His contributions were recognized with honors such as the Dora Mavor Moore Award and the Merritt Award, reflecting both his talent and his lasting impact on the performing arts community.

In addition to theatre, Donat appeared in a variety of television and film projects in Canada and the United States. He became widely known to audiences for his role as Vince Teagues in the series Haven, where his composed presence and nuanced performance brought depth to the show. Earlier in his career, he also contributed to the Star Wars: Ewoks animated series, voicing the character Deej Warrick and connecting his work to a globally recognized franchise.
